Stuffed Lions need washing help too

stuffed animal lion ask for a good washing

Stuffed animals with any foam parts, including foam beads like the ones in bean bag chairs, can not be put in a washing machine.

Stuffed animals with foam parts can still benefit from surface cleanings. Just sprinkle your stuffed animal with dry baking soda. After 25 minutes brush the baking soda off. This process will clean smells out and clean any surface dirt from your stuffed animal. You can also use baby powder.

For bad stain or soiling on your stuffed animal, use a gently all purpose cleaner. Ideally an organic, safe, multi purpose cleaner. Then take a soft scrub brush or toothbrush to the stuffed animal, particularly cleaning the soiled areas, wipe clean with a dry or slightly damp towel and let your freshly washed stuffed animal dry.

NOMbat - a great reason to wash your stuffed animals

nombat baby nom

This is a great reason for washing your stuffed animals, babies put everything they can in their mouths. You can surface clean your stuffed animals or you can thoroughly clean your stuffed animals, you should make the decision based on what your stuffed animal is made out of. In fact, you should decide what stuffed animals you let your baby stuff in their mouth on almost the same criteria!

This particular stuffed animal reminds us of our good friends over at nomBat Brand Development, their mascot is a hungry nomBat, and they also just happen to do great graphic design and brand development.

Stuffed Tigger ready for washing

If your stuffed animal is really big, really firm, or has a lot of stuffing you can remove the stuffing by cutting open a 5-6 inch seam in the bottom of the stuffed animal to be washed. Removing the stuffing will prevent it from shifting and keep the animal from losing shape. If the stuffing is dirty you can wash it by hand or even better replace it with new stuffing from a fabric store. If you are washing your stuffed animals stuffing by hand be sure and let it dry before you put it back in. After washing, re-stuff your freshly washed stuffed animal and sew the seam back up to make sure no stuffing will fall out.
